A native Detroiter, Carla moved to Los Angeles in 1998 after being accepted into the Graduate Screenwriting Program at the University of Southern California.

During the program, Carla executive produced the Cinema-Television school’s first sitcom pilot.  She has written and produced over a dozen television shows including That’s So Raven, Half & Half, Hit The Floor and Good Girls.

She was the showrunner on her own comedy series, One Love, starring Mark Curry, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and the late Sherman Hemsley. It debuted on Bounce TV in April 2014, reaching more than 1 million viewers, making it the network's most watched original series ever.

Looking to mentor other writers and share her craft, she has also taught at Northwestern University (her alma mater) as a lecturer in the Radio Television Film Department.

She is currently working as a Co-E.P. on Bel-Air for Peacock and developing television projects through her overall deal at Universal Television.

She founded Babycakes Productions, Inc. as a vehicle for her creative projects.  She resides in Los Angeles with her husband, two children and a Goldendoodle.
